Our Methodology

Transparency and accuracy are central to our mission. This page explains how we research, verify, and present information about public figures who have threatened to leave the country.

Research Process

Our research process involves multiple steps to ensure we're documenting accurate, verifiable claims:

  1. Initial identification: We monitor news coverage, social media, and entertainment media for statements by public figures threatening to leave the country over political outcomes.
  2. Source verification: We locate the primary source of the statement whenever possible - the original interview, tweet, video clip, or article where the statement was made.
  3. Context review: We examine the full context of the statement to understand whether it was a serious declaration, an off-hand comment, or clearly intended as humor.
  4. Documentation: We record the statement, its source, the date it was made, and any relevant context.
  5. Follow-up tracking: We monitor for any follow-up statements, clarifications, or evidence of actual relocation.

Inclusion Criteria

To be included on this site, a statement must meet the following criteria:

  • Public figure: The person must be a recognized public figure - typically a celebrity, entertainer, athlete, or other notable individual with a public platform.
  • Explicit statement: The person must have made an explicit statement about leaving the United States, not merely expressed general dissatisfaction.
  • Political trigger: The stated reason for leaving must be tied to a specific political outcome, typically an election result.
  • Public record: The statement must be documented in a publicly accessible source that can be verified.

What We Don't Include

We exclude certain types of statements to maintain focus and credibility:

  • Obvious jokes: Statements that are clearly comedic with no serious intent (e.g., "I'll move to Mars").
  • Vague discontent: General expressions of unhappiness without a specific threat to relocate.
  • Private individuals: Statements by people who are not public figures.
  • Unverifiable claims: Statements we cannot trace to a credible source.
  • Non-political moves: Relocations for career, family, or other non-political reasons.

Verification Standards

We use a hierarchy of sources, prioritizing the most reliable:

  1. Primary sources (highest priority): Video footage, audio recordings, or direct social media posts from the individual.
  2. Major news outlets: Reports from established news organizations that conducted interviews or witnessed statements firsthand.
  3. Entertainment media: Coverage from entertainment news outlets, talk shows, and podcasts.
  4. Secondary reporting: News aggregation or reporting that cites other sources (used only when primary sources are unavailable).

Determining "Actually Left" Status

We classify someone as having "Actually Left" only if they meet these criteria:

  • Permanent relocation: They have established primary residence outside the United States.
  • Political motivation: The move was explicitly connected to the political concerns they previously cited.
  • Verifiable evidence: There is credible evidence of the relocation (news reports, public statements, official records).

We do not count temporary travel, vacation homes abroad, or work-related stays as "leaving." The bar for "Actually Left" is intentionally high to maintain accuracy.

Updates and Corrections

We are committed to accuracy and will promptly correct any errors:

  • New information: We update profiles when new statements or developments occur.
  • Corrections: If we discover an error in our reporting, we correct it promptly and note the correction where appropriate.
  • Removal requests: We consider removal requests on a case-by-case basis, though we generally maintain records of public statements made by public figures.

All photographs on this site are sourced ethically and legally:

  • Wikimedia Commons: Our primary source for images, using photos licensed under Creative Commons or in the public domain.
  • Proper attribution: Every image includes credit to the photographer and specifies the license.
  • License compliance: We comply with all license requirements, including attribution and share-alike provisions where applicable.
